Mijn naam is Kim ter Horst.
Kunstenaar/illustrator/grafisch vormgever, gevestigd in Breda.
Al tijdens haar studie, aan Willem de Kooning academie, balanceerde Kim al tussen autonome- en sociale kunst. Ze besefte meer en meer hoe kunst
(-naast als haar grootste hobby) nog een zeer belangrijke functie heeft. Namelijk om boodschappen, sfeer, statements, of de emotionele lading achter een verhaal te kunnen delen. Kunst én design is communicatie, waar de woorden ophouden.
"Ik zie kunst en illustratie als powermotor achter dat wat we willen delen met de wereld, om hem te verbeteren. Zelf houd ik mij al lange tijd bezig met zelfontwikkeling, culturele interactie en verbinding met natuur."
Na het afronden van haar illustratie-opleiding, begon ze een solo backpack reis door Europa en een yoga-opleidng. Dit proces, vol inzichten en de wens om te her-connecten met mens en natuur, neemt ze mee in haar persoonlijke kunstprojecten. Bijvoorbeeld in exposities over dankbaarheid.
"Door de jaren heen ben ik mezelf steeds meer leren kennen. Dat dat heb ik ook te danken aan het terugblikken op mijn jeugd. Al zeer vroeg leren kinderen patronen en gedrag aan van hun omgeving en ervaringen. Identiteit interesseerd mij erg. Ik besef me goed dat het latere wereldbeeld (van de nu nog jonge kinderen) op dit moment, mede door ons, gevormd wordt. De fantasie van kinderen is op jonge leeftijd vaak nog rijk, hun werledbeeld nog zo eerlijk en puur. Dingen die ik graag instand houd. En door middel van grappige of lieve kinderboeken, laat ik ze zo nu en dan graag met een thema in aanmerking komen, die voor hen een positieve bijdrage kan leveren aan hun latere zelfbeeld of wereldbeeld."
Ik naast kinderillustraties maakt Kim ter Horst ook nog altijd andere kunst/illustarties. Ze houd zich bezig met het maken van korte annimaties, verouderingsportretten, edithorial-illustraties, (muur)schilderingen, NFT , grafisch desgin, artworks en conceptueel werk. Ook werkt ze graag samen met inspirerende bedrijven, om hún ideeën tot leven brengen en hun waarden delen.

Kim ter Horst is an illustrator and artist, based in the Netherlands. She was always balancing out social and autonomous art. During her younger years, it became clearer and clearer for her, that visualizations strengthen the messages, the communication, or even just the feelings that people have. And that art is able to do this in ways that we are verbally limited in.
"I see Illustration as a power-engine, behind what we want to share with the world, to improve it. Therefore I focus on (mental) health, cultural interaction, and our relation as humans with the environment. In short: I promote 'Love for human and nature."
After her study at Willem the Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, she started working as a children book writer and illustrator, but also kept working on art in a more adult environment. Both are ways to have a better understanding of herself in the context of 'the world around her'.
"I noticed my love for learning from fellow humans, how they see and experience life, whether they are old, young, thick, thin, black, white, etc. I think that making others' perspectives on their life visible, is important in order to connect people via your work."
Nowadays she focuses the most on her own art, but she is still open to collaboration with inspiring companies, to help them shear their worth.

Exhibitions:
2008: ‘Een weekend ter Horst’. An exposition of three generations ter Horst (creative family)
2010: ‘Werken van Kim’. The first solo exhibition showed different art projects that Kim was working on, from the age of 8 to 11 years old.
2017: ‘Blind voor racisme.’ An exhibition in complete darkness, to make a statement about racism. Artworks were invisible. The experience was to get to know the art in different ways.
2020: ‘A New Way To Escape’. Solo exhibition about escaping to a dream world. (abstract and surrealism)
2022: 'THNX - The Art Of Contrast'. An exhibition where I combined acrylic paintings with shadow patterns. All art is created on the topic 'gratefulness.'
